The 10-Point Pre-Launch Form Audit Every Growth Marketer Should Run
The 10-Point Pre-Launch Form Audit Every Growth Marketer Should Run
You've spent weeks writing landing page copy, refining value propositions, configuring ad campaign targeting, and polishing creative assets.
The marketing budget is approved: $5,000 across Google Search Ads and LinkedIn Sponsored Content.
You click "Enable Campaign".
Three days later, you check your dashboard: 1,400 paid clicks, $2,200 spent, and exactly zero form submissions.
You investigate and discover a humiliating oversight:
- The form's submit button had a CSS
pointer-events: nonebug on mobile viewports. - Or the webhook endpoint was pointing to a localhost development URL.
- Or the required phone number field lacked regex validation, silently rejecting every format users typed.
A broken form turns your paid marketing budget into ashes.
Before launching any public campaign, every performance marketer and growth engineer should run this 10-Point Pre-Launch Form Audit.
The 10-Point Form QA Checklist
1. The Mobile Safari Real-Device Test
- Action: Open the form on a physical iPhone using Mobile Safari.
- Verify: Tap each input. Does the screen unpleasantly auto-zoom? (If yes, your font size is under 16px). Does the virtual keyboard obscure the input field? Does scrolling work smoothly?
2. Mobile Keyboard inputmode Verification
- Action: Tap the Phone field, Zip Code field, and Email field on a smartphone.
- Verify: Does the Phone field summon the telephone dialpad? Does the Zip Code field summon the numeric keypad? Does the Email field show the
@symbol on the main keyboard layer?
3. Autocomplete Attribute Compliance
- Action: Tap the First Name field on a device with browser autofill enabled (Apple Keychain or Google Autofill).
- Verify: Does the browser offer a 1-tap contact autofill prompt? Do Name, Email, and Organization populate correctly?
4. End-to-End Live Webhook Submission
- Action: Submit a live test entry using a realistic personal or corporate email.
- Verify: Does the payload arrive in your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive)? Are custom properties (Budget, Timeline, Team Size) correctly mapped to the right contact properties?
5. Real-Time Slack / Email Notification Latency
- Action: Check your team's designated alerts channel (e.g.,
#inbound-leads). - Verify: Did the Slack notification arrive within 5 seconds? Does the alert preview highlight the prospect's company size and email clearly?
6. Error State and Inline Validation Messaging
- Action: Deliberately submit the form with invalid data:
- An invalid email address (
test@invalid). - Leave required fields blank.
- An invalid email address (
- Verify: Are error messages gentle and informative? (e.g., "Please enter a valid work email" vs. "INVALID_FORMAT_ERR"). Does the form automatically scroll and focus on the first errored field?
7. File Upload Size and MIME Restrictions
- Action: If collecting files (resumes, portfolios), upload a 15 MB PDF, an HEIC smartphone photo, and an invalid executable (
.exeor.bat). - Verify: Does the valid PDF upload effortlessly without requiring a Google Account login? Is the invalid executable blocked with a clear warning?
8. Custom Subdomain & SSL Certificate Hygiene
- Action: Check the form URL bar.
- Verify: Is the form hosted on a clean branded subdomain (
forms.yourcompany.com) rather than a third-party vendor domain? Is the SSL certificate valid (valid HTTPS padlock)?
9. Post-Submission Thank You & Redirection Logic
- Action: Verify the post-submit experience:
- Does the custom Thank You screen appear with clear next steps?
- If redirecting to Calendly or a booking URL, does the redirect fire in under 1 second?
- Does your conversion tracking tag (Meta Pixel, Google Ads Conversion) fire accurately on submit?
10. Spam Protection & Cloudflare Turnstile Check
- Action: Submit the form in a private/incognito browser window.
- Verify: Does bot verification pass invisibly without forcing the user to solve frustrating image captcha puzzles?
